Ontario Drivers Licence Change of Address Requirements

Luckily, changing your address in Ontario is a fairly easy process. The only difficulty is the fact that you only have six days from the day you moved to make the change. This is a much smaller period of time to make the change than most other areas, so be sure not to waste time. Utilize our perfected Easy Guide to help you through the process of changing your address on an Ontario driver's licence in a seamless fashion. Let's get going!

1: Get Started with Online Application Services

Online application assistance can simplify the process for many Ministry of Transportation, or MTO, related services, including: renewing your license, applying for a license, registering a vehicle, replacing your license, changing your address and more. In addition to the free forms and general instructions available from the Ministry of Transportation, or MTO, offices or websites, you will receive a comprehensive Easy Guide™ containing information relevant to your service needs. Where possible we will prepare your Ministry of Transportation, or MTO, forms and/or provide links to Ministry of Transportation, or MTO, Online services. You will also receive 30 days of emergency roadside assistance. Other benefits include an ongoing monthly newsletter and quarterly magazine covering important updates that affect drivers, important safety tips and ways to save money on vehicle-related services.

2: Take the Practice Test

Some drivers prefer to handle the renewal process by mail, rather than taking advantage of assistance services, visiting the ServiceOntario Centre of MTO closest to them, or applying via available online services. Service online is available with limitations. Read below for additional details or visit your local ServiceOntario Centre or MTO.

3: Via a local MTO, or ServiceOntario Centre

If you prefer to access Ontario driver's licence services in person or your specific needs require an in-person visit, most, if not all, driver licence services can be handled at a physical Ministry of Transportation, or ServiceOntario Centre. Varying Ministry of Transportations or ServiceOntario Centres will sometimes supply different types of services so you will need to check before your visit to make sure the location closest to you provides the service you require. In addition, you can call to see if your local office allows you to make a personal appointment. Read more below to see if an in person visit is either preferred or required.
